Spotlight Top Tracks Playlist: Volume One
One of the many reasons I love living in the North East is because of the vast array of local bands and artists we have here and we are lucky to have so many venues and promoters putting on gigs right across the region.
My enthusiasm for seeing local bands and artists live has led me to discover some incredible songs, so I thought I would share what I am listening to at the moment in the hope it may help others discover some of the regions hidden gems.
Keiandra - Wanted
19 year old singer/songwriter Keiandra has recently been making waves in the local music scene with slots at this year's Evolution Emerging and Music Box 2017.
Showcasing her signature mix of haunting lyrics and sweet vocals, the debut single ‘Wanted’ is the perfect introduction for anybody not familiar with Keiandra.
A simple yet incredibly infectious track, it is refreshing to see such a young artist have this much drive and potential.
The Circus Villains – Mysterious
The Darlington quartet The Circus Villains are a band who I am fairly new to, however the indie bunch certainly made quite an impression when I first saw them live.
Their track ‘ Mysterious’ is my favourite of theirs so far, with its opening riff that certainly sets the tone perfectly for the band.
Having only recently discovered them at ‘Soapbox Sessions’ in Darlington, where they did a stripped back set, I was incredibly impressed to hear the studio recording of this track and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Idle Violets – Break out the crazies
Despite having recently undergone a line-up change, with Jonathan Staff from Crease filling the void left by bassist Richard, it’s safe to say that Idle Violets haven’t missed a beat.
While new stuff is currently in the pipeline, ‘Break out the crazies’ is a perfect introduction for anybody unfamiliar with the Middlesbrough based band.
Lead singer Joel Clayton’s voice offers a distinctive and raw vocal edge which, when coupled with the roaring rock intro of the track, makes for enjoyable and intense listening.
Avalanche Party – I’m So Wet
No playlist would be complete without a contribution from arguably the biggest band the North East has to offer, and Avalanche Party's 'I’m so wet’ is an absolute belter of a track.
It’s easy to see why the band have been in such high demand. After playing the BBC Introducing stage at last year's Reading and Leeds fest, they have since toured Europe, performed at multiple festivals and just recently their track ‘Revolution’ featured on US TV Show ‘Blood Drive’.
'I’m so wet’ is a track guaranteed to be at the top of your playlist for weeks to come.
