Preview: Twist Helix "Little Buildings" Tour
Having left some lasting impressions with their recent high-energy live performance as part of Evolution Emerging Festival, synth-pop darlings Twist Helix have just announced a 'Little Buildings' tour in August to celebrate the release of their new single of the same name - a fantastic track we reviewed a couple of weeks ago which you can read here:
The trio is fronted by Bea Garcia, on keys and vocals, whose charm and passion for her art never fail to enthral an audience. With James Walker on drums and Michael Humble on bass, the three create their infectious and thought provoking electro-pop sound which has seen them build a strong following of fans in the north east and beyond.
The tour will be taking the band as far as Sheffield, so it seems only right to have Sheffield’s own, the Vuromantics, join Twist Helix on their tour. These guys are all about blending 80’s retro vibes with fresh electro and pop sounds. And, despite having only been going since the start of the year, the band have already released their first EP: 'Waiting on a Storm'.
Naturally the tour will also include 2 gigs up north for which the trio have pulled together a pretty spectacular assembly of support bands for:
Warming up for Twist Helix in Stockton will be Teesside's Talk Symmetry, who bring a unique twist to electronic music by meshing together synthetic sounds, guitar melodies and heady vocal intricacy. Another special treat on the night will be Eddie and the Valkyries, the new side project by Olli (the frontman of local post-punk favourites Casual Threats). This is an extra special debut in this intimate setting within his hometown which should not be missed!
Support for the Newcastle show comes from two extremely talented local bands.
Firstly, Scalesia, who have been turning heads for a few months now as one of the region’s most ambitious new bands. With their confident live performance and compelling indie-rock tunes these guys always get a crowd going and are definitely high on my “ones to watch” list.
And if that’s not enough, power trio Slurs will also be delighting us on the night with their witty lyricism and alt-pop sounds, which has seen the group build a formidable reputation and following in the local music scene.
