Single Review: Fever Days' ‘What’s Your Problem?’
Experimental indie project Fever Days release their debut single ‘What’s Your Problem?’ on the 26th of October via Newcastle based record label Kaleidoscope, here is what we thought!
Fever Days are by no means a new name to us here at Spotlight, having reviewed their first two DIY releases earlier in the year, both of which immediately made us take note of the band and their experimental indie-synth sound.
And clearly we were onto something, as band have since been signed and, with label mates like Callum Pitt, SHIELDS and Grace Gillespie the band are clearly in safe hands.
Once a one-man band created by Oli Green, Fever Days have blossomed into a four-man strong outfit who made their live debut at Newcastle’s Evolution Emerging Festival, followed swiftly by securing coveted slots at Meet The North Festival as well as tour supports with Brownbear and Spring King.
Their unique way of shaking up indie melodies with electronica, hip-hop and lo-fi influences is giving them an edge over many other bands currently on the scene. This, despite their live performance style still being somewhat raw and unrefined, allows for a real thrill to observe the inevitable evolution that lies ahead for the band.
'What’s Your Problem?' fundamentally captures all off the distinctiveness Fever Days have to offer. A punchy electro intro instantly grabs your attention and cleverly leads your expectations of the track astray just as those classic indie-roots emerge in the form of a delightful guitar-driven melody. The quick-witted lyrical style is sharp and to the point, capturing the never-ending internal monologues and thoughts of an extremely anxious person – a feeling all too relatable in these current times.
The warped sound-effects further depict those themes before preceding into a funk-laced chorus that truly reinforces the tracks fresh and current feel.
All the while, flashes of heavy riffs add a dynamic piece to the already diverse puzzle, and ensures a mass-appeal far beyond just the younger generation.
‘What’s Your Problem?’ is set for release across all major streaming and download services on the 26th of October.
The band will also be hosting a launch party at the Star and Shadow Cinema on the day of the single's release, tickets can be found here:
