Spotlight On The World: Oh Sister and Freddie Dickson Live House Gig in Münster

What do you need for a successful house-gig? Not much apparently; just a set of talented musicians and a lovely and supportive crowd – and ideally some musical equipment.
If you can’t bring the latter, it’s good to have some good friends, who keep a bunch of amps, guitars and tape in their bedroom, ready to donate them to musicians in need…

Luckily, London-based singer-songwriter Oh Sister (Sarah Berresford) and Berlin-based singer-songwriter (Freddie Dickson) could count on the lovely people of Münster, who equipped the two musicians with everything they couldn’t bring to this lovely West-German student city. This included amps, guitar stands, a DIY-microphone stand (made of a guitar stand, tape, a hair tie and a wooden wine box), an acoustic guitar (borrowed from the host herself) and, of course, a suitable venue in the heart of Münster.

While the autumn rain pattered against the windows, an attentive crowd, mainly consisting of music-loving students, was listening to the sultry tunes by Oh Sister and Freddie Dickson inside one of the city's famous student flats, which was transformed into a cozy and intimate music venue that night.

With her folky and dreamy semi-acoustic songs, such as 'For the Dales', coupled with a clear fairy-voice, Oh Sister took her audience on a journey to the North East of England, singing of feelings and thoughts inspired by her home Teesdale.
Overwhelmed by the beauty of this melancholy sound, I could see before my eyes scenes of the wild coast and the green and foggy hills of the North East.

And, looking at the faces of the attentive listeners, I could clearly see that they were taken far away from this rainy night in Münster, too.

After a short but chatty break, many laughs, beers and wine, Freddie Dickson started filling the small room with his sultry voice. Atmospheric and introspective songs, like 'All Means Something', enchanted the impressed audience once more.
When Oh Sister joined him with her beautiful voice, the young crowd couldn’t stop cheering and applauding.

My favourite moment of the night happened when the crowd took on the responsibility of a drum section, clapping their hands and snapping their fingers to the beat of the music, so that the whole room became a unique soundscape that was absolutely goosebump-inducing!!

What a wonderful musical treat on a cold and rainy October-night!
Luckily, Sarah is working on her debut album, which she will hopefully release soon (can’t wait!). Likewise, Freddie Dickson is currently working on his second studio album, which he is going to publish by the beginning of next year!

Also, Oh Sister and Freddie Dickson have recently started the musical collaboration Lucile and their latest single 'All The Love in Your Heart’, a dreamy and melancholic acoustic song, is a perfect blend of Freddie’s atmospheric and sultry sound and Oh Sister’s clear and warm voice that travels straight to the heart.

Keep your eyes open for these two talents from England as well as on the developing music scene in Münster, which will hopefully host many more gigs of this kind in the future!
