Single Review: Swine Tax's 'Natural Causes'
Just in time for Halloween, chaos-rockers Swine Tax bring us a menacing new single 'Natural Causes' that will send your heart racing with its furiously heavy riffs and bone-chilling tales.
Despite now being well known for their unpredictable and intense alt-rock style, there is an even heavier rock sound apparent in this new track which comes as a very pleasant surprise, reaffirming again how versatile Swine Tax are in their approach to their musical creation. Inspired by Shakespeare’s revenge tragedy Hamlet, frontman Vince’s trademark vocal style lends itself perfectly as he narrates us though the dark and dingy passages of the horror film aesthetic of the track - from unsettling whispers to ferocious outbursts.
The build-up in the intense and frightful atmosphere is evident throughout, portraying the rising aggression of the tale's protagonist by throwing in uninhibited guitar solos and ferocious beats to culminate in a spectacular attack of sound.
The song’s intriguing and lavish lyrical content draws the listener in and lures them into repeat spins to allow for ever more of the story's mysteries and lies to unravel. This lyrical prominence is almost so apparent that the superb fuzzy noises and guitar melodies at times sink into the background as an accompanying soundtrack instead of being the focal point.
But all of that is made up for with the track's big revelation finale – a nostalgic spoken-word sampling concluding with even more furious noise and heavy riffage.
The trio, made up of Vince (vocals/guitar), TK (vocals/bass) and Charlie (vocals/drums), have outdone themselves here by producing a piece of music that brings together a deeply hooking narrative, sampling techniques and prevalent rock and punk influences.
Their unique and unpredictable style has been growing ever stronger with each release, led by Vince’s abilities to draw on his experiences of Northern city life and at times even digs hard-hitting political themes to create songs that remain original and pertinent.
And, after a busy summer of live shows, there is no break in sight for the band either as they have already promised us more new music in collaboration with producer MJ (of Hookworms) at Suburban Home Studios in Leeds.
We sure can't wait to hear more if this single is anything to go by!
'Natural Causes' will be available to stream and download on all major online music stores and platforms on 31st October.
In the meantime be sure to give the band a follow on their social media so that you don't miss their future announcements.
