The most festive of seasons is upon us and what better way to enjoy it than out and about experiencing some live music! And with so many special Xmas gigs happening, especially on the three Saturdays preceding the arrival of the big man, we found it simply too hard to just select one for each day so we’ve chucked in an extended selection for you to choose from.

16th December
The Rookery Christmas Party ft Deep.Sleep / Mayfare & More

What could be better than a festive jam hosted by the lovely folks at The Rookery.
Making it an extra special edition of the now frequent events, this one will offer a generous eleven hours of music which starts with the renowned jam session at noon that is open to all.
These festivities will be followed from 7PM onwards with an impressive showcase gig featuring the superb indie outfit Deep.Sleep, infectious indie rockers Mayfare, psychedelic disco band Velvet Shakes from Manchester, garage rock duo Palm Beach and alt-rockers Bellyfeel.
Come and get stuck in with these music makers and lovers!

A darker take on the festive season will be on offer with this riff-laden fuzzfest over at Bar Loco. The event will raise money for the People’s Kitchen and promises fierce performances by noisy alt-rockers Slurs, gothic post-punk bank Lost On Me, unpredictable chaos-rockers Swine Tax and lo-fi outfit Pacer. A rather generous offering from good old Krampus we must say!

Taking place across 3 venues in Sunderland to form this crawl, the main action will be upstairs at The Peacock with a mighty North East indie triple-pack featuring Great Waves, Club Paradise and Cohesion. While more chilled acoustic performances will be provided by the likes of Tall Shaves, Aimee Lambert and many more at The Engine Room & The Dun Cow. Be sure to bring spare change for those collection buckets and raffles!

This fourth instalment of the annual winter showcase is full of darkly tinged sounds from some of the region's finest acts. Alt hip-hop outfit Ceiling Demons will no doubt deliver another intriguing and provoking show in the main room of the glorious Georgian Theatre alongside brooding rockers The Broken Broadcast and Swears. In between acts, The Covers Club will provide festive favourites in the intimate bar area to keep the atmosphere on a high.
