Single Review: Hakara's 'Deadline'
'Deadline' is the latest single release from Newcastle alt-rockers Hakara and the second track revealed from their upcoming 2018 EP ‘Divine Intuition’, which is due to be released on the 28th April.
Much like the first single release from the EP, 'Sellotape & Superglue', this track starts in fourth gear; ultra-fast drumming and guitar riffs grab the attention of all your senses.
The initial vocals bring the pace down a notch, which gives the whole song an anthemic, sing-along feel – ideal for the car, shower, or wherever you feel free to rock out.
Having said that, 'Deadline' is a great track for Hakara to please the crowds wherever they’re playing live. It’s a much more radio-friendly, indie-leaning track than 'Sellotape & Superglue' but it’s got all the unmistakeable Hakara hallmarks – great guitar work, physics-defying drumming, head-banging, fist-pumping song construction wrapped up in a superbly produced powerball of a song.
The accompanying lyric video on YouTube (see below) is also well-made, with backstage/rehearsal footage overlaid with words.
If you’re not already a rock fan this song will make you one. If you’re already a rock fan, you’ve probably already bought 'Deadline' and are going to the EP launch gig on Saturday 28th of April at Little Buildings, Newcastle.
