How would you describe your sound to someone to convince them to check you out at the festival?
Oooh that’s always a tricky one. Although I've been compared to the likes of Lily Allen and Cyndi Lauper, I would say it’s pretty eclectic! I don't like sticking to one specific feel. We have everything from up tempo guitar driven tunes with catchy melodies to fun and skanky vibes and all the way back to heartfelt songs with just guitar and vocals. It’s a very dynamic set, but it’s always quite hard to describe your sound so its probably easier for us to show ya so it would be great if you could make our set. We're at The Cluny at 7.30 and it would be lush to see some people there!
What are your thoughts on Evo Emerging?
Its an absolute honour to be playing this year. I was a punter last year and just absolutely loved it. I think there is so many unreal bands and artists in Newcastle, to have a full day of them all showcasing what they are up to and doing their ‘thang’ at the coolest venues in Newcastle is something special and is not to be taken for granted. Last year there was so much cool music around and I didn't know where to turn first. I felt like a kid on Christmas Day! I think Evo is great and I hope it continues to grow and keep getting bigger for many years.
How important do you think grassroots events such as this are for emerging artists?
Super important. Not only does it provide emerging artists with a stage and a platform but it also gives us an opportunity to meet all the other emerging artists in the area so we can support and celebrate each other's music. It also gives music lovers a place to go to discover some new bands!
Which artists are you excited to catch at the festival?
Oh man, I wanna catch as many artists as I can but I specifically want to catch the ones haven't seen yet like - Polo, Mouses, Holly Rees, The Yada Yada Yada’s, Martha and The Pale White.
Do you have any tips for other up and coming artists who are starting out?
Play, write, collaborate and enjoy it! Support your local music scene. Don’t care about if other people will like the music you write, write it because you like it and that way it is more authentic. Don't get too wrapped up in the business/social media side of things because it zaps your creativity. It’s important to have a good understanding of it and do it, but don’t get too caught up in it because the music should always come first!
Do you have any developments you're working on that you want to give a shout out to?
I have been working on lots of new music ready for my first official release so keep an eye on my socials for more info sooon!
