Acoustic stage features more chilled and stripped back sets from the likes of Michael Gallagher, Aaron Wiggett as well as loops n soul by Parissa Zarifi. Off Axis presents another incredibly diverse line-up of emerging acts from the north east and beyond, this time at the quaint Arch Sixteen Cafe in Gateshead. Melodic alt-rock headliners Palma Louca are bound to have you bedazzled with their captivating sounds right after supports sets from Glaswegian rockers Sweaty Hands, local indie-band the Phosphenes and charming singer-songwriter Jay. 12th May - Chain the Phoenix EP launch w/ Flowers For Charlie / The Yada Yada Yadas / Lava Frog

Local punk-rockers Chain the Phoenix have been grafting hard on their debut EP and are now ready to unshackle its chains with a huge launch party gig at Ouseburn’s intimate Little Buildings. Expect an exhilarating live show full of heavy riffs, fierce vocals by female lead singer Jess as well as plenty of crowd-interaction that will make for an unforgettable memorable night. And to ensure the party kicks off with a bang there are three incredible support acts including Manchester pop-punk machine Flowers For Charlie and local trio the Yada Yada Yadas with their infectious alt-rock melodies so get down early!

Scottish rockers VIDA have been tipped highly by music fans and pundits across the nation and there is no doubt that their nostalgic brit-rock vibes have that distinct stadium-worthy sound even at this early stage. Currently out on the road on their biggest headline tour to date we expect it to be a pretty boisterous night full of top-of-the-lung singalongs. A guaranteed “I was there!” gig, so get down early and catch Teesside acts Towzer and Joe Ramsey on support too!

Established back in 2012, north-east dream-pop band Nano-Kino have been floating around the music scene on and off for quite some time but are now ready to take things to the next level with the impending release of their first single ‘Never Seemed To Happen’ in August. Known for their free-flowing guitar melodies and lead singer Suri’s enigmatic siren-like vocals you better be prepared to be taken on a head-spinning journey when the four-piece return to the stage alongside local synth-pop sweethearts Twist Helix and brand new northeast act Night Class.

After a break from the local music scene Sunderland indie-rockers have returned with a bang. First by releasing a cracker of a video for their previously released tune Texaco and now by announcing this special hometown show at Independent. And who better to support them on the night than two equally exciting bands from Sunderland: folk-pop megagroup Picnic and indie-pop crafters St Buryan. There won’t be a foot left standing still and a voice kept silent. Let’s give these lads big warm welcome back!

Wondrous five-piece alt-rockers from Fife never fail to impress with their emotionally charged live act full of shiver-inducing vocals and cinematic vibes. With new material recorded with Idlewild’s Rod Jones much can be expected from Foreignfox in the months ahead. And whilst their current UK tour also has the band play Newcastle’s Little Buildings the following day this particular show stands out for its strong support line-up featuring three tremendous local bands that are all worth experiencing in their own right.

After the great success of our previous Spotlight Music showcases of local emerging acts we have gone one further this time by inviting a non-north-east based band up to headline our latest shindig. Manchester fuzzy-rockers Hungdrawn will be a sight to behold and no doubt get those heads banging and toes tapping. But of course, it wouldn’t be the same without some of our incredible local acts being on the lineup too, so we have picked Hartlepool punk-rockers Thin White Line, the highly-explosive Too Close For Missiles and psychedelic rockers Lava Frog for your enjoyment.
