EP Review: 'What It Says On The Tin' by Dead Blue
Happy days! We have finally been treated to a rare EP from Dead Blue.
Following their previous release ‘Tenderstem’, Dead Blue has stood out with their unique punk-style attitude.
Basically they sing about what ever they want, when they want.
Their lyrics are honest but hilarious, complimented by heavy drums and distorted guitar riffs.
‘What It Says On The Tin’ consists of ‘Chelsea Smile’, ‘TV Dinner’, ‘Don Cruise’ and ‘Am I Going Bald?’ and, while all four songs are similar in style each tells their own story in the most entertaining ways.
The vocalist isn’t exactly Mariah Carey- adding excessive ‘ooo’ ‘ahh’ riffs at the end of every line. No, our Dead Blue is not about that - in fact the singing is almost talking at times. But it fits well with the punk attitude of the band and the real-life topics that they talk about.
I mean you can’t really expect an emotional ballad about going bald, can you?
This is what I love about Dead Blue’s EP. The topics are not overly serious or lovey dovey and the band just seem to be having fun with what they do and I have great admiration for that.
Dead Blue is definitely a high-energy band, providing some decent head-bangers, and they even confessed themselves that their own EP was “banging” (totally unbiased of course).
Dead Blue stick out like a sore thumb, but in the best possible way.
Their fun and rebellious style is a refreshing alternative on the music scene. If I could listen to one band for the rest of my life, Dead Blue would be it.
