Single Review: 'Focus' by Georgia Lee
Local bundle of energy and joy, Georgia Lee, released her debut single ‘Focus’ last week. Inspired by power women such as Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera and Cher, Georgia got up to sing on a stage for the first time when she was nine years old and now there is no way of kicking her off that stage anymore!
Her soul-inspired funky pop-sound is as refreshing as it is catchy and her powerful voice is of a calibre that is hard to forget.
Besides having a great voice and sound, Georgia and her band are also great live performers who enchanted Corbridge visitors last month.
With some yet to be announced shows in the future and an upcoming video for single ‘Focus’, Georgia has given herself a busy schedule for the upcoming months. But for now, we’ll just ‘Focus’ on her debut single as it deserves all the attention it could get...
Shedding light on the new release, Georgia said:
“I was messing around with my keyboard in the kitchen while waiting for my chips to cook and felt inspired to write ‘Focus’. The year prior had been very testing after an awful relationship and any other thing that could go wrong thrown into the mix. Looking back on it and comparing it to how I felt in the moment, I started writing. Focus is about losing yourself to someone else when you’re at your most vulnerable, giving over too much of yourself to someone who will be happy to take everything you have.”
Instead of turning these life-events into negative thoughts and feelings, Georgia decided to take back control and improve her perspective on life. The passion and pain Georgia felt speaks through her way of singing and makes her life-lessons ours as well.
To focus is something we all need to do more from time to time, and Georgia wrote exactly what we all need to hear sometimes. With their open and theatrical sound, these performers are made for big stages and it shows that the band is inspired by many different genres from Queen and Billy Joel to R’n’B and funk.
‘Focus’ is only the beginning…
