Single Review: 'I'll Be There For You' by Leddie MC ft. Eve Conway
Leddie MC has been one of the most consistent artists in the North East for a number of years now. Her work as part of Leddie & Smoggy is credited by many as their first exposure to local hip-hop, and she’s only improved since going solo.
In the past week or so she has supported Epic Beard Men on two of their UK tour dates, performed at Mela Festival and released the video for arguably her best received single to date.
‘I’ll Be There For You’ was originally released on May 26th as a birthday present for her young niece, but has since snowballed into a fan favourite.
With Eve Conway featured on the chorus, the song explores a plethora of advice from Leddie.
Although meant for a young child, there are musings on life that feel relevant for everyone.
From encouragement to tell your Mum and Nanna you love them to dealing with heartbreak and everything life invariably throws at us all in between.
Leddie has an almost unparalleled ability to make pathos-packed music which is inherently personal to her while making it inclusively relatable to the listener.
A while ago now she shook away from the pressures of rappity-rap and allowed herself to focus on crafting songs.
She’s more recently posted on social media about how making emotionally resonant music is what she’s proud to be known for and ‘I’ll Be There’ might be the best showcase of her skill in this department yet.
With this new video, directed by the tremendously talented Jack Craggs, hopefully even more people will discover the excellence of Leddie MC.
The recent success has lead to a rethink of her future plans. ‘I’ll Be There’ was initially intended for an EP released this November with another EP to follow later down the line.
Leddie has since announced those EPs will be merged together to form an album - and I am very excited to hear that.
