Xaatu - Glow
Sometimes it's the small guys that make the best stuff.
If you find yourself growing increasingly smothered by the over saturation of boy bands and female rappers that have clogged the proverbial music tunnel like yesterday's curry remains then you should spend a few hours whisking through the lesser known, self produced, artists that litter YouTube and sound cloud like a very talented plague.
One such plague spawn (in the nice way) would be xaatu (pronounced zartoo) an amazingly clever and concise producer and student who, despite his young age, is by far one of the best musicians I've heard over the last couple of months.
Having recently just caught his newer song "glow", I've decided to focus primarily on that track as it seems to be the single that I would personally say embodies the overall tone and style of xaatu's work.
In glow there's a buildup, a slow methodical pacing that feels like standing atop a waterfall ready to plummet to the bottom. A sense of exhilaration builds in your stomach and as the drop comes, the sense that I can only describe as an emotional roller coaster lurch starts in the brain and travels down the spine leaving you with shivers. The tune mellows and keeps these tingles going with a slow trance beat as the masterpiece builds up to a second crescendo that promises to be just as powerful as the first. It raises and the tidal wave of electronic beats makes ready to crash into you and hold you in a further personal nirvana of sound.
